Why Rockford calls Tate & Sons Dumpster Rental Rockford

A local team, not a call center with a truck somewhere

Founder & Director James Tate started Tate & Sons Dumpster Rental Rockford after years working in hauling and logistics around Rockford, on a simple idea: quote a real price, show up when you said you would, and treat somebody's driveway like it's your own. That's still how the company runs. When you dial (815) 706-6053 you reach our yard at 3269 S Alpine Rd — not a national dispatch queue that's never tried to back a loaded roll-off up a narrow south-side driveway or figured out which Winnebago County township roads turn to mud after a spring rain.

That local knowledge is most of the job here. Knowing which Rockford neighborhoods need a City permit for a street placement and which don't. Knowing that a gut renovation full of plaster and lath torn out of an older Rockford home will hit its tonnage allowance long before the box looks full. Knowing what Illinois keeps out of a landfill load — yard waste, electronics — before it becomes a problem on pickup day. And knowing every town in Winnebago County, from Loves Park to Pecatonica, well enough to tell you honestly how fast we can get there.

  • Flat-rate quotes with the tonnage allowance stated up front — no hidden fees
  • Standard 7-day rental period on every container
  • Same-day and next-day delivery across Rockford and every corner of Winnebago County
  • Straight guidance on Illinois disposal rules and City permit requirements
  • Licensed and insured, locally owned and operated

Why choose us

Six reasons Winnebago County homeowners and contractors keep our number saved

  • Local, not a call center

You reach our Rockford yard, not a national dispatch queue. The person who answers knows which Winnebago County streets a loaded truck can actually turn on and which permit rules matter that day.

  • One flat price, written down

Delivery, rental period, pickup, and a stated tonnage allowance in a single number. If something would push you over, we tell you before the truck leaves.

  • Same-day when you need it

Call early and most Rockford and Winnebago County orders go out the same or next day. Swap-outs on live jobsites get priority over everything else.

  • Run by a local family

Founder & Director James Tate and the Tate & Sons team coordinate every delivery out of our 3269 S Alpine Rd yard — not a national dispatch desk. We know which Winnebago County streets a loaded roll-off can actually reach.

  • The right box, not the biggest

Weight fills a container long before volume does. We will talk you into a smaller can if that is the honest answer.

  • Loads sorted properly

Yard waste, electronics and household hazardous items all have their own routes under Illinois disposal rules. We tell you what has to come out before it reaches the scale, not after.

Know before you load

What Illinois will and won't let you throw away

A short list is a hard no in every container we set. Paint, solvents, oils, tires, batteries, other hazardous chemicals, propane tanks, gas cylinders and medical or biohazard waste never go in a Tate & Sons Dumpster Rental Rockford roll-off — no exceptions, no waivers. If you're unsure whether something counts, ask us before you load it.

Yard waste has its own rule in Illinois. Under the state's landscape waste landfill ban (415 ILCS 5/22.22), grass clippings, leaves and brush can't be buried — they have to be composted or hauled as a separate clean load. We'll set up a dedicated yard-waste container so a landscaping cleanup doesn't get tangled up with the rest of the debris.

Electronics don't belong in the dumpster either. Illinois' Electronic Products Recycling & Reuse Act keeps TVs, monitors, computers and printers out of landfill disposal — they need a certified e-waste recycler instead. Set them aside and we'll point you to where they actually need to go.

Placement on a public street needs its own City permit. Private property never does, but a curb-lane container generally runs through the City of Rockford's own permit process. The City of Rockford dumpster permit guide covers when that applies and how it works.

We'll walk you through exactly what has to come out before you load anything. If the job also involves digging, start with the JULIE 811 call-before-you-dig guide — Illinois' statewide one-call center covering every corner of Winnebago County.

How it works

From your phone call to an empty driveway

No forms, no portal logins, no waiting on a quote email. Five steps, and the first is a conversation with somebody who's actually loaded a container.

Two minutes on the phone is the whole booking

Tell us the address, roughly what's going in, where you want it and when. That's the entire process on your side. We handle sizing, scheduling, protection, hauling and disposal.

If you're not sure what size you need, don't guess — describe the pile. Sizing containers is what we do all day, and we'd rather talk you into the cheaper box than sell you space you'll never fill. Placing it on the street instead of your driveway? Ask us about the City permit — private property never needs one, but a curb-lane container generally does. See the City of Rockford dumpster permit guide.

  1. 1

Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask what you are clearing, where the box needs to sit and when you need it. No forms, no waiting on an email.

  2. 2

We size it and quote it flat

You get one number covering delivery, the rental period, pickup, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so.

  3. 3

Delivered on boards, where you want it

The driver walks the spot with you, lays protection under the rails and sets the container square in the driveway, curb lane or job site.

  4. 4

    Load at your own pace

Keep it level with the top rail and keep the banned items out. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call and we are on it.

  5. 5

We haul it and sort it right

Clean concrete, metal and yard waste get routed for recovery rather than buried, per Illinois disposal rules. You get your driveway or curb back the way you left it.

The thing nobody tells you

Bigger is not always the safe choice

Most people ordering their first dumpster assume the biggest container is the least risky option. With light, bulky material — furniture, boxes, insulation, cabinetry — that's true. With anything dense it's the opposite.

A 30 or 40 yard box loaded with roofing shingles, or with plaster and lath torn out of an older Rockford home, will blow past its tonnage allowance while it still looks half empty, and the overage gets charged by the ton. A 20 yard with a matched allowance often costs less for exactly the same job. The roofing tear-off sizing guide walks through it in detail.

Ask us and you'll get the honest answer, even when the honest answer is the smaller box. The size guide walks through the math, and the cost factors guide covers what actually moves the price.

Rockford specifics

A city built on rebuilding itself, one project at a time

Rockford has gone by "The Forest City" since 1853, and the Rock River still runs right through downtown the way it has since the first sawmills and furniture shops set up along its banks. In the early 1900s this city was the second-largest furniture-manufacturing center in the country, behind only Grand Rapids, Michigan — sawtooth-roofed factories built largely by Swedish immigrant worker cooperatives turned out furniture that shipped across the country. A lot of that same brick-and-timber factory stock is still standing today, and a good share of our calls trace straight back to it: an old furniture-district building converted to lofts, a Rock River-adjacent property cleared for redevelopment, a century-old home gutted down to the studs. The Furniture City heritage renovation debris guide covers what that kind of project usually means for a container order, and the Rock River property cleanup guide covers river-adjacent placement specifics.

Modern Rockford still makes things — aerospace, automotive and fastener manufacturing keep a lot of Winnebago County working, alongside the renovation and construction crews we see every week. Whatever's driving the job, from a Rockford Peaches-era bungalow to a brand-new build out past the Rockford line, the container shows up sized right and the driveway comes back clean.

FAQs

Dumpster rental questions, answered

The questions we field most often from Rockford homeowners and contractors. More on the full FAQ page.

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster in Rockford?

We quote a flat rate before the truck ever leaves the yard — delivery, the rental period, pickup and a stated tonnage allowance rolled into one number, with no hidden fees added after the fact. What moves the number is the size you need, how dense the debris is, how long you keep the container and where in Winnebago County the job sits. Call with a short description of what you're clearing and you'll get a firm figure on the spot. Our cost factors guide walks through what actually drives the price.

How long do I get to keep the dumpster?

Every rental runs on a standard 7-day period, which covers the vast majority of cleanouts, remodels and jobsite runs without anyone watching the calendar. Working through a bigger project? Call before the week is up and we'll talk through extending it — most of the time it's a simple add-on, not a renegotiation. Live jobsite swap-outs and early pickups get priority over everything else on the schedule.

How quickly can you deliver a dumpster in Rockford?

Most orders called in early go out the same day across Rockford and the closer parts of Winnebago County. Later calls usually land first thing the next morning. We run Mon–Sat 7:00am – 6:00pm. Jobsite swap-outs get priority because a full container stops a crew working. The honest exceptions are a spot too tight for a loaded truck to reach or a street placement that needs a City permit first.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster on my property?

Private property — your driveway, yard or jobsite — generally doesn't need one. A container set out on a public street or the curb lane is different: the City of Rockford has its own permit process for that, and we'll tell you exactly what's required before the truck ever leaves the yard. Tell us where the box is going and we'll tell you which situation applies. More detail is in our City of Rockford dumpster permit guide.

Do I need to call JULIE before a dumpster is delivered?

Not for a container that simply sits on your driveway, an existing paved area or the curb — that's a surface placement, not excavation. JULIE, Illinois' statewide one-call center (dial 811 or visit julie1call.com), is what matters if the same project involves digging — a fence post, a footing, a drain line — anywhere near the drop spot. Call at least two full business days ahead of any digging so utilities can mark their lines first. Not sure whether your job counts? Ask us when you call, or see our JULIE 811 call-before-you-dig guide.

What can't go in the dumpster?

Paint, solvents and oils, tires, batteries, other hazardous or toxic chemicals, propane tanks and gas cylinders, and medical or biohazard waste are out of any container we set — no exceptions. Two Illinois-specific rules also apply: grass clippings, leaves and brush can't go to a landfill under the state's landscape waste ban, and TVs, monitors, computers and printers have to go to a certified e-waste recycler under Illinois' Electronic Products Recycling Act — never in the dumpster. Wood, drywall, tile, flooring, furniture, roofing shingles and small household appliances are all fine to load. Unsure about something? Ask before you load it and we'll tell you where it actually needs to go instead.
